Christian Vision’s 2023 Digital Day: Future Now

Bridging Mission and Technology for Global Evangelism

At the intersection of mission and technology, Christian Vision (CV) stands as a global ministry committed to introducing the world to Jesus.

Since its inception in 1988, CV has been at the forefront of leveraging advanced technology, global talent, and strategic partnerships to amplify its missional impact.

In a remarkable stride towards this commitment, CV proudly presents the 2023 edition of Digital Day: Future Now, its annual innovation conference that explores the role of technology in the mission field.

The mission and the journey

CV’s overarching mission is clear – to introduce a million people to Jesus each day, especially in predominantly unreached areas. The approach involves a synergistic blend of optimised social media advertising, effective gospel content creation, and a mix of on-the-ground and digital pioneering activities.

The CV UK team recently hosted a workshop which aimed to equip church leaders with knowledge on how to optimise the online space to reach their community.

The DigitalReach Workshop was led by experienced and enthusiastic speakers who delved into topics that contained practical and easy to understand steps for the attendees.

These topics included: embracing online spaces, knowing the target audience, designing content, using AI (Chat GPT), and creating a digital evangelism strategy.

The workshop had a total of 20 attendees, with some church leaders flying all the way from Ireland to participate.

CV received encouraging feedback from attendees who said they left with new tools that would enable them to revive their online ministry – many also requested another workshop be held soon.

Overall, the workshop was a success and provided Christian leaders with ways to generate ideas, develop skills, and create opportunities for churches to reach more of their community.

Because the workshop was a huge success, the CV UK team is planning another workshop which is scheduled for January 2024.

I was told during a lesson on flying that scanning is not the same as looking. When flying, we can take an example from the eagle. It has an eye the same size as a human eye, but each eyeball has two lenses, similar to binoculars, making the eagle’s eyesight up to eight times more powerful. It can see its prey two miles away.

The eagle is aware of its surroundings but gets intent on its object. It keeps its prey in the centre of its vision the whole time. The eagle doesn’t scan but remains focused.

We can just scan the bible, or we can look into it intently. To do so we need the will to observe. When we do that, we can see all the little things that a casual observer misses. The bible is wonderful in that it speaks to the average person at the level of their comprehension, but to the student they can plumb the endless depths of the Almighty and uncover so many hidden treasures.

Why not try cultivating a spirit of intentionality. Gems are rarely found on the surface, but a little digging brings with it great rewards.

CVCLAVOZ, an initiative of CV, has empowered pastors, ministry leaders, and Christian media professionals with skills to create high-quality Christian content for evangelism.

The recent La Asociación Glocal de Comunicadores [Association of Global Communicators] (AGC) Summit held in Miami was a melting pot of creativity and innovation in Christian media. CVCLAVOZ hosted a series of workshops at the event that provided more than 100 participants with the tools to create better-quality Christian content focused on digital evangelism.

CV offered attendees the chance to deepen their understanding of modern media techniques. The workshops spanned a variety of topics, including the anatomy of content production, audiovisual production essentials, and transmedia marketing planning.

For many attendees, the Summit was a life-changing event. Participants walked away from the event enriched in knowledge and loaded with practical tools to improve their church’s content and social media posts. Survey data collected post-event showed overwhelmingly positive feedback, with attendees eager for more offerings from CV and CVCLAVOZ.

“These workshops have empowered individuals with the knowledge to produce top-quality Christian content, which is vital for spreading the word of Jesus effectively,” CVCLAVOZ Manager, Fabio Criales said. “The Summit was a testament to the potential for synergistic collaborations in the Christian media space.”

As CVCLAVOZ continues to make strides in its mission to equip and mobilise the church for spiritual growth and evangelism, the success of the AGC Summit sets the stage for more collaborative initiatives in the future.

In the West African country of Guinea, ‘talking with your hands’ means more than just being expressive, it is an important part of oral storytelling. And, as this testimony shows, it can also be an effective way to introduce people to Jesus.

Supported by CV’s National Pioneers Initiative (NPI), Mamadou*, a CV pioneer, plays a pivotal role in CV’s Impact-a-Nation (IAN) strategy in Africa. Entrusted with sparking movements towards Christ, these pioneers engage in indigenous evangelism and discipleship. They also play a role in establishing self-sustaining churches and fellowships.

Mamadou recounts how he shared the gospel with the Fulbe people in a unique way, using hand gestures. After sharing a cultural greeting with a man named Kaba*, Mamadou felt inspired to share the gospel. He simply asked Kaba if he could share a wonderful story, to which Kaba eagerly agreed.

Using grand hand movements, Mamadou conveyed the life-giving message of the gospel. Through emblematic gestures, he built a cultural bridge that allowed Kaba to connect with the story of Jesus. Kaba became eager to learn more and Mamadou patiently answered all his questions and shared many things about Jesus from the gospel. Even though Kaba was intrigued, the weight of potential consequences for embracing Jesus in a predominantly Sunni Muslim country loomed large.

A month after Mamadou shared the gospel, the two met again. Kaba revealed that he had relayed Mamadou’s story to his family using the same hand motions and they wanted to know more.

This opened the door for Mamadou to provide Kaba with the New Testament in the Pular Language, and they are now studying it together.

Mamadou’s method illustrates the importance of local pioneers who can bridge cultural gaps, helping the message of Jesus reach those who might otherwise not hear it.

Let’s pray that the Holy Spirit strengthens Kaba and his family on their faith journey, and that Mamadou continues to use creative ways to navigate cultural barriers, introducing even more people to Jesus.

In Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, one of CV’s pioneers has experienced a remarkable transformation within his ministry, thanks to a strategic embrace of Facebook ads.

Pioneer Rajapaksa’s* journey began in 2014 with the earnest goal of nurturing and expanding his church. However, this took an unexpected turn two years ago during a CV National Pioneers Initiative (NPI) interview. At this moment, Pioneer Rajapaksa confronted his own inadequacies and acknowledged his past limitations which led to an enormous shift in his ministry approach.

Guided by CV, he delved deeper into the potential of online platforms, particularly Facebook, to effect change. The integration of Facebook ads became a game-changer for Rajapaksa’s ministry. Out of 150 people he engaged with, an astonishing 36 embraced Jesus and found salvation, while others embarked on new spiritual journeys.

Under his leadership, his church congregation thrived, birthing new pioneers and establishing numerous home cells. Church planting became a passion of his, and all of this has been achieved in just two years with CV’s unwavering support.

Pioneer Rajapaksa remains profoundly grateful for the teachings and skills he has learnt through CV’s online initiatives, which have equipped him with the knowledge and strategies needed for effective evangelism and offliner engagement.

“While many people may not immediately open up, I’ve developed effective approaches to connect with them,” Rajapaksa said.

“Every person typically has a specific query or hope that has led them to our Facebook page, ‘True Way’, so I always start by explaining why True Way was presented to them.”

This one-to-one approach has proved to be remarkably successful, leading many to embrace Jesus.

“It’s not just about reaching more people; it’s about connecting with them on a personal level, nurturing their faith, and guiding them toward salvation.”

The incredible faith journey this pioneer treads is a testament to the transformative power of Facebook ads and the strategic use of online platforms in advancing spiritual growth and bringing positive change to communities.

Indigitous recently hosted an event in Jakarta and invited CV Indonesia to speak on successful digital evangelism.

Indigitous is a global movement that strives to take the gospel to new people, new places and new spaces.

Their online community allows Christians around the world to connect, collaborate and create effective digital tools, resources and strategies for spreading the gospel.

The event held an audience of ministry leaders, digital practitioners and individuals eager to learn new ways of spreading the gospel online successfully.

CV Indonesia’s Content Manager spoke on utilising digital technologies, why CV is successful in the digital missions space, and how individuals can create opportunities to get involved in digital evangelism.

Given that Indigitous’ scope of ministry is closely related to CV’s, these topics achieved a positive response, not only from the attendees but also from the Indigitous team.

This was especially true when CV’s Content Manager talked about the Harvest App—a mobile application currently being developed by CV to introduce Jesus to unreached people groups.

Join CV and Indigitous in praying for the attendees, that they were mobilised from this event with the skills needed to operate their ministries in the digital space successfully.

I recently saw a YouTube video about a man who died and went to heaven. I am normally cautious about such videos, but he seemed like a sensible person. He said that upon returning to this earthly realm, he realised that through this experience, he learned that God loves us MADLY.

It was his choice of wording that grabbed my attention.

‘Madly’ implied that God was crazy about us, that he had an all-consuming love for us. Something way beyond the normal, so excessive that it was beyond human logic.

How could that be – that the creator of the universe was head over heels in love with us? That the all-powerful, all-knowing, omnipresent God should care for us at all? David said, “What is man, that thou art mindful of him?” (Psalm 8:4)

How could God love me that much? It is much more than I love myself! I know who I am, I know my faults and failings (probably not all). I can’t say I always love myself and I certainly couldn’t say I am madly in love with myself. Yet is God?

As I pondered on this to consider if it was true, it occurred to me, how much love you would need to have for someone else, to be prepared to sacrifice your only beloved son for them. Not only sacrifice him but allow him to endure the most terrible agonising death.

Such love would have to be beyond all human boundaries, greater, more awesome, more intense, in fact, in our terms – crazy.

It defies all reason or logic, yet it is true that God did exactly that when he sent Jesus to die for us. If ‘madly’ doesn’t correctly describe God’s love for us, it’s a pretty close description – for to the human mind it does seem mad, almost insane.

Yet God’s ways are higher than our ways and his thoughts above our thoughts. The Bible says that even his foolishness is greater than our wisdom.

I feel humbled in the face of such a pure love. There are no words that I can find that begin to comprehend and grasp this.

How can we respond to such excessive love? Nothing less than complete surrender of our will to him. Such love demands a response and to give him our imperfect love in return.

So, I am happy to rejoice in the thought that our eternal God loves us, madly.
